Welcome!

The Democratic National Convention is on August 25-28, 2008 in Denver Colorado. Oregon will send 65 delegates and 9 alternates to represent our state at this historic event. Democrats elect 53 of those delegates at congressional district and state conventions.

This is the right place if you want to:

• Run to be a delegate at the 2008 Democratic National Convention
• Vote for someone else who is running to be a delegate
• Vote for who goes to the state convention
• Attend the state convention

The delegate assignments and elections are kind of complicated. Please read the FAQs to make sure you file correctly.

Delegates are chosen in two steps.

1. On June 7, at conventions in each of Oregon's five congressional districts, Democrats will meet and vote for delegates to the national convention. They also elect delegates to the state convention. Congressional District meeting locations.
   
   
2. On June 21, Democrats elected at the congressional conventions meet at the state convention and vote for more delegates to the national convention.

Delegates supporting each presidential candidate are chosen in proportion to the number of votes that candidate received in the primary election. For example, if Hillary Clinton receives 50 percent of the vote and Barack Obama receives 50 percent of the vote, they will each get 50 percent of the delegates.

The delegation includes equal numbers of men and women, and we have goals for representation of many groups in the delegation. The delegation will reflect Oregon's population.

Democrats who have filed to be delegates to the national convention can create a page in our Delegates' Pamphlet, which is available on-line and will be printed for the congressional district and state conventions. If you're running for to be a delegate, you will want to campaign for your election. The people who can vote for you at the district level are those who have filed to attend the district conventions. The people who can vote for you at the state level are those elected from the district conventions to attend the state convention.
