| My Statement |
I am Antone Minthorn and I am the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in rural northeast Oregon. I have served on the Tribal Council for 25 years and I am a committed Democrat and have worked hard for the party for three decades.
Constructive, positive change comes from the bottom up. As a Native American Cayuse Indian,I have made change happen--in my life, in my work, in Oregon and in my community. As an Indian leader, I have had the opportunity to create change through collaboration. I have worked with farmers, bankers, business leaders, scholars and politicians to create change through collaboration. As an example, in less than two decades I worked alongside other rural leaders to restore the Umatilla River and bring back three stocks of salmon long extinct--and we did it collaboratively while protecting the agricultural economy that was the foundation of the region. As a Native American leader, I represent and share the vision of Senator Barack Obama and of the Democratic Party--change so government serves the people, change so government represents all people, all races, and change so that people can afford health care and be proud of this wonderful nation. I look forward to representing the Democratic Party of Oregon, the Confederated Umatilla Tribes and the equality and diversity of this great country as we gather in Denver, Colorado to nominate Barack Obama as our next President. Those are my credentials for considerations to be a national delegate to the Democratic National Convention. | |
