My Statement
I'll admit it: I have a weakness for candidates who inspire me. I always look for leaders who are worthy heirs to JFK and FDR.

I found inspiration in Howard Dean, but then the mainstream media tore him apart. As a result, during this election cycle I have devoted myself to building alternative media and to supporting other candidates who move me the way Dr. Dean did.

As a middle-aged white female lawyer, I might have been expected to support Hillary Clinton for President. But despite my many surface similarities with Senator Clinton, I found myself drawn to Barack Obama because I choose to be motivated by hope instead of fear, and because I know that he can be a transformative figure in our politics if we allow him to be.

I have worked behind the scenes to enable the kind of social change that is important to me. 18 years ago I worked with Nelson Mandela's foundation to raise money for scholarships for black South Africans by creating commemorative merchandise for Mandela’s first visit to the United States. In recent years, as a volunteer, I have been a board member and President of the Friends of the Multnomah County Library, supporting literacy programs and services for adults as well as children in our community. In 2000, I volunteered at the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles, standing guard at the gate through which members of Congress entered. This year I decided that I’d like to have a seat inside, supporting the historic and inspirational candidacy of Barack Obama.

Best of all, Barack Obama doesn't inspire just me – he inspires tens of millions of voters, and countless millions around the world, with a vision of a smarter, more humane, better America. He is the future. I am proud to support him and I would be honored to represent you in voting for Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention.
