My Statement

Matt Keating, MKeating@studentsforbarackobama.com

As a currently enrolled college student, member of the GLBT caucus, Oregon community organizer, and chapter coordinator of Lane's Students for Barack Obama group, it's my honor to accept the nomination made by Eugene for Obama members to represent Oregon's 4th Congressional District at the State and National level.

"Barack Obama's candidacy is more than a campaign," Rep. Neil Abercrombe says, "It's a movement." He couldn't be more accurate -- Sen. Obama has given hope to the hopeless and helped a previously disillusioned generation of Americans shed the cynism that has shackled our dreams and desires. By practicing a more positive form of politics, Barack Obama has encouraged us to embrace a sense of empowerment and civic responsibility yet to be realized in my lifetime.

Inspiration is an understatement; but it is great inspiration, energy, and enthusiasm that has propelled me to do my part by registering over 700 new Democratic voters for this 2008 election! From tabling daily at LCC, to rolling through the streets of Eugene with "Obamabot" (a modified Artoo-Detoo from a film that defined a generation for a candidate who speaks for our generation), I hope I have helped - and would like to continue to help Sen. Obama secure our Democratic Party's nomination for 44th President of the United States.

Glad to be of service . . . see ya in Denver!
