| My Statement |
We are in the midst of an epic struggle: a struggle between the old politics of innuendo, sounds bites, and "end justifies the means" thinking, and the new politics of nuanced policy, and uplifting vision.
If the politics of old prevails, little will change in Washington. Special interests will still view their control over government spending and government policy as an entitlement. Access to power will still be determined by the depth of one's bank account. Fulfillment of the "American Dream" will become a reality for fewer and fewer of our children and grandchildren. If the politics of old is overcome, we will enter a new era of hope in the future. It will be an era where shared sacrifices will create shared rewards, where investment in education will allow our children to compete in the world market for the jobs of the future, where investment in infrastructure will allow the dispersion of new jobs throughout our land, and where out foreign policy will once again reflect the values that we hold dear. Barack Obama is the candidate who best reflects the new politics. He is the candidate best suited to unite our country, move our nation towards social justice, bring our soldiers home from Iraq, and restore our standing among the community of nations. He is uniquely qualified to defeat John McCain in November and to move our country into prosperity and glory. I would be honored to support him in Denver. | |
