  • As Chair of the Faith Caucus
  • I helped guide our caucus in planning for and participating in the DPO Platform process. We participated throughout the process, providing advice and assistance in platform language throughout.
  • As Caucus Chair I testified in Salem in support of payday loan legislation to protect consumers and was quoted in the Statesman Journal.
  • As Caucus Chair I worked with Susan Silodor of Healthy Kids Oregon, along with seven religious denominations, to stage a news conference in support of Measure 50. Fellow Faith Caucus members also participated in a volunteer canvass for Measure 50.
  • As Caucus chair I changed The Faith Caucus web page for use as a resource for caucus members looking for ways to put their faith in action. Including events and marches supporting peace, end of war and social justice.
My Statement
As Chair of the Faith Caucus I lead a group of wonderful caucus members to help redefine faith in politics and show that faith is not an issue to be co-opted by one political party over another. I believe firmly in Separation of Church and State and equality of religion under the law. I want to be sure that the freedom of all religions, including the freedoms of those who choose not to belong or participate in a religion are never compromised by the relationship of one particular faith group with government.

As a Democrat of Faith, I hope to broaden the conversation away from the narrow focus of the Republicans to include healthcare, protecting the environment, ending poverty and many other issues that will enhance the well being of the Common Good. I firmly believe that Senator Obama is the candidate who will move the conversation away from split screens and sound bites towards citizens having an adult conversation that will create an atmosphere where people can come together and solve the problems that we so urgently face.

I hope you will send me to Denver to represent the Oregon Democratic Party and cast a vote for Senator Obama.
Sincerely,
Enrique Arias
